Is there a Known Cause, Specific or Unknown, and is there ever a Good Reason Consideration for Back Surgery possibly for...

  • New or progressing bowel/bladder issues
  • Weakness in limbs
  • Gait and balance problems
  • Evidence of increased (brisk) reflexes
Brisk reflexes refer to an above-average response during a reflex test.  During a reflex test, your muscle contracts in response to taps from the reflex.

Surgery can also be an option for chronic back pain if there is a known cause confirmed by imaging and if other treatments didn’t help. “Get opinions from at least two surgeons”  Note: pain can still come back after the surgery.

Invasive Surgery, Laser, Electrical Nerve Stimulation or A New way to combat back pain without surgery

Degeneration of a lumbar disc
Lumbago
Umbilical Hernia

Joints of Luschka: Luschka's joints (also called uncovertebral joints, neurocentral joints) are formed between uncinate process or "uncus" below and uncovertebral articulation above. They are located in the cervical region of the vertebral column between C3 and C7

Severe multilevel cervical disc degeneration with multiple levels of degenerative listhesis.  Severe facet and uncovertebral osteoarthropathy throughout the cervical spine, left greater than right.  No prevertebral soft tissue thickening.  No vertebral body height loss. Decreased bone mineral density.

Uncovertebral: joint osteophytes, or bone spurs, are small bone growths that develop in the cervical spine (neck) due to the natural weakening of the spine over time.

Osteoarthropathy: disease of the joints and bones

Degenerative Listhesis: Spondylolisthesis derives from two parts: spondylo which means spine, and listhesis means slippage.  A spondylolisthesis is a forward slip of one vertebra (i.e., one of the 33 bones of the spinal column) relative to another.
