Satellites - How Many Are There & Types

The space age began on October 4, 1957 with the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1.

Since then over 6,000 Satellites have been Launched.  Estimated amount of Satellites in Orbit per The Goddard Space Flight Center's lists 2,271 satellites.  There are Non Operational Satellites and an undetermined amount of Space Junk Orbiting.  What Goes Up Must Come Down see Warning at the end of this post.

Click the Link below to view the list of that Type Satellite and Track Satellites Available for Tracking Live

Brightest Satellites - are visible when the sky is dark and the satellite is able to reflect sunlight back to the observer.

Weather Satellites - primarily used to monitor the weather and climate of the Earth. These meteorological satellites, however, see more than clouds and cloud systems. City lights, fires, effects of pollution, auroras, sand and dust storms, snow cover, ice mapping, boundaries of ocean currents, energy flows, etc., are other environmental information collected from weather satellites.

NOAA Satellites - (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) polar-orbiting environmental satellites (POES) for longer term forecasting. These satellites are necessary for providing a complete global weather monitoring system.

GOES Satellites (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite system) - provide the kind of continuous monitoring necessary for intensive data analysis.

Earth Resource Satellites - have the mission to monitor Earth's oceans, ice caps, and coastal regions etc. They provide systematic, repetitive global measurements of wind speed and direction, wave height, surface temperature, surface altitude, cloud cover, and atmospheric water vapor level etc.

US Capitol NO FLY ZONE Goes Postal

Our President & the Capitol are Safe from an invasion of one a GyroCopter and Pilot Doug Hughes, age 61, a Postal Worker, not wanting a raise...No White House Squirrels were injured or Lawn damaged beyond repair. So much for Security & Secret Service on the Job...Your Tax Dollars at Work

Neither Snow nor Rain nor Heat nor "No Fly Zone" of day or night...stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

Doug has or had a great idea, and he is or was a Government Employee, he had talked of doing something big in a protest to bring attention to the issue of campaign finance reform, to deliver 535 letters of protest to 535 members of Congress, calling for them to address corruption.

Which this stunt will affect his retirement, as he will not be retiring from the Post Office. Doug planned for 2.5 years, even called ahead to inform Uncle Sam he was coming, however all the Security in Place to prevent Breech of Security by Land or Air did not work to prevent him from landing inside.

Although he was successful to a point on his Mission, he also shed light on Vulnerabilities of Capitol Security...so now the Enemy can attack with massive amounts of Drones, and Suicide Gyro-copters with you know what....so some extremist group is now thinking there's an Idea brought to you by a Federal Employee.
